Star Trek takes $31.7m before US release

Star Trek has opened internationally to $31.7m from only 7 markets as US and Canadian cinemas prepare for it to show this Thursday. The film starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Christ Pine and Zachary Quinto was made on a budget of $185m.

US box office estimates from this weekend continued to be dominated by Iron Man 3. The film has now taken the top spot of Rentrak's results table for three consecutive weekends.
