Schulz says Europe risks losing a generation

European Parliament president Martin Schulz has said that Europe is "running the risk of losing a generation".

"One of the biggest threats to the European Union is that people entirely lose their confidence in the capacity of the EU to solve their problems. And if the younger generation is losing trust, then in my eyes the European Union is in real danger," he told Reuters in an interview.

With poor industrial data out of France and poor GDP figures from Italy this morning, it is far from certain that falling confidence in the European Union is the only thing that could bring it into crisis. The much heralded recovery of the European Union has yet to materialise.
