Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) chief executive Stephen Hester has said that the bank will meet regulatory capital requirements in about 18 months.

Our capital ratios are transformed but we have another 18 months or so to get them in the final shape that we and our regulators want.

RBS has been cutting back lending, particularly international and investment operations, in order to reduce ratios.
