London rental prices surge ahead of the rest of the UK

Between May 2005 and May 2013, rental prices in London have increased by 11 per cent – more than twice the rate of increases in the North East (5.2 per cent) and the East Midlands (5.3 per cent), and far ahead of the second quickest increase of 8.3 per cent in the East, according to data from the ONS.

Year-on-year in May 2013, London rent prices rose by 2.2 per cent against an England average of 1.3 per cent. The North East was the only region to experience a fall in rental prices, down 0.1 per cent.
