Labour wins South Shields by-election

Labour candidate Emma Lewell-Buck has been victorious in a South Shields by-election triggered by the resignation of the seat by former foreign secretary David Miliband. The strength of the Labour vote dropped as the party's majority dropped from 11,109 to a still impressive 6,505.
