HSBC says staff layoffs will be thinly spread

After it was revealed that HSBC could scrap up to 14,000 jobs globally, the bank's chief executive Stuart Gulliver has said that these cuts will be "thinly spread" and number 4,000 to 14,000. However new jobs will also be added.

Group COO Sean O'Sullivan added that progress would be made internationally, with no clear idea at present of which in countries roles would be lost or when.
