House prices edge up in May

Figures released by Nationwide show that house prices were up 1.1 per cent in the year to May, from 0.9 per cent in the month to April. Economists had expected a rise of only 0.9 per cent in this period (release).

Purchasing a typical UK home will now set you back £167,912. The index saw growth from zero per cent (revised from -0.1 per cent) to 0.4 per cent in the month of May.
