Halfords to hit expected profits despite cold weather

Halfords, the car parts, car enhancement, camping, touring, mobility and bicycles retailer, has released a pre-close statement for the 11 and 52 weeks to 29 March (release). The firm saw cycling and other outdoor goods sales hit by the adverse weather at the start of the year. The firm anticipates that profit before tax will remain in line with expectations at £68-72m.

Matt Davies, Chief Executive, commented:

This was a robust performance demonstrating how the balance of our business can offset some variations in the weather. Car Maintenance sales were strong as we helped motorists cope with the freezing conditions and this endorses our strategy of investment in our unique wefit offer. Cycling and Travel Solutions were impacted in the period but we have a strong offer ready for the spring and summer periods.
