GlaxoSmithKline names Frenchman Gisserot as its new head of operations in China

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), the pharmaceutical company at the centre of a bribery scandal in China, has announced it is appointing a new head of operations in China.

Herve Gisserot will take over from Mark Reilly, who will stay on as a senior member of the management team, a spokesman has told Reuters. Gisserot has held the position of senior vice president, European Pharmaceuticals area head at GSK since 2012, and has also held senior positions in Europe with Sanofi-Aventis.

In January 2013, Gisserot was elected President of the LEEM (Les Entreprises du M├ędicament) after holding a position on the board since 2008. LEEM is an independent not-for-profit organisation looking to foster productive relations between stakeholders in the life sciences industry.

The spokesperson added that travel restrictions on the company’s finance head for China Steve Nechelput are believed to have been lifted.
