German consumer price increase meet analyst expectations

Consumer prices in Germany rose by 1.5 per cent in May 2013 compared with May 2012, meeting analyst expectations. Last month, consumer prices rose by 1.1 per cent.

The consumer price index increased by 0.4 percentage points in May 2013, compared with April 2013.

Food is increasingly affecting the inflation rate, with monthly rates of price increase higher than the overall inflation rate since January 2012.

Meanwhile, energy prices were up 1.6 per cent in May year-on-year.
