FTSE down to lowest point in five months - but holding above 6,200

The FTSE 100 index has dropped to its lowest point in five months following last night’s statement from the US Federal Reserve that it could begin tapering off its bond buying programme and news of a Chinese slowdown.

It's currently down 2.34 per cent skimming the edge of 6,200.

US data (including initial jobless claims and manufacturing PMI) out over the next hour could be influential. Brenda Kelly of IG looks ahead to the US opening bell.
