This follows reporting over the weekend by German magazine Der Spiegel. The EU confronted the US over a report on Saturday that the US National Security Agency (NSA) had bugged EU offices and accessed EU internal computer networks, according to further documents leaked by former CIA analyst Edward Snowden.
On Sunday, Der Spiegel ran another report saying that the US secret service taps half a billion phone calls, emails and text messages in Germany in a typical month – more than any other European country and similar to the data tapped in China and Iraq.
