EU spokesman says decision to take UK to court over migrant discrimination is legal, not political

An EU spokesman has said that the decision to take the UK to court over alleged discrimination against EU nationals is a political, not legal decision.

The EU has alleged that UK rules discriminate against residents from EU member states, as the British right-to-reside test to become eligible for welfare payments goes beyond the EU's standard checks for migrant eligibilty.

The spokesman said that talks on UK migrants have been ongoing for two years, and that recent moves are not related to events, political or otherwise.
