4G is coming to the Channel Tunnel

Some exciting news for London to Paris commuters: the Channel Tunnel's going to get 4G.

Eurotunnel announced this morning that it's teamed up with EE to bring UK 4G mobile coverage to the north tunnel by the summer.

The south tunnel got 2G coverage in 2012. A new 10-year deal with EE and Vodafone means customers travelling from the UK to France will soon have access to 2G and 3G services too, with quality just as good as it is above ground.

The 100m-deep Channel Tunnel sees 20m passengers making the 35-minute journey every year.

The extended coverage marks another step when it comes to answering the need for connectivity while on the move.

EE's Fotis Karonis said:

We’re proud to offer customers a superfast 4G service when they’re travelling from the UK into Europe. It’s another technology first for EE, and it’s one that will make a big difference to business workers and people going away on holiday.
