YouTube enters world of pay TV

GOOGLE’S YouTube video service yesterday entered the world of pay television by starting a subscription service with 30 content creators.

Participants in the trial service include children’s programmers Sesame Street and Muppet creator The Jim Henson Co, and the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

YouTube, the world’s largest video website, allows creators to set subscription fees and accept advertisements, at their discretion, for the channels they create.

For example a PGA Golf Factory channel costs $4.99 a month while stand-up comedy content is $2.99.
