WPP’s Ogilvy & Mather to take majority stake in Strike Media

WPP’s marketing subsidiary Ogilvy & Mather has struck a deal to take a majority stake in South African mobile marketing and technology agency Strike Media.

Strike, which reported 16m rand (£1.2m) in revenues for the year to the end of February, is headquartered in Cape Town and employs 20 people.

The deal marks WPP’s latest step down the acquisition trail, as it looks to beef up its presence in fast-growing markets and sectors. Last month Sir Martin Sorrell’s company bought ecommerce group Salmon and three agencies in Colombia.

The firm also aims to generate 35 to 40 per cent of its revenues from digital within five years.
