Whitehall units to go private

THE GOVERNMENT hopes to shift several dozen Whitehall units into the private sector by 2015’s election, as part of a push to integrate civil servants into the wider economy.

This morning the government’s behavioural insights team – known as the nudge unit – will take its first steps towards mutual status, as it advertises for a commercial partner to form a joint venture and bid for private sector contracts.

As part of a coalition effort to boost employee ownership, the unit’s civil servants will receive a stake in the joint venture.
