Where to Drink

London’s cocktail bar proliferation continues apace with a noticeable growth spurt in the West End and Hoxton. The Radio Bar has now officially launched at the summit of Covent Garden’s ME Hotel, and is quite possibly the finest roof terrace in London. Enjoy cocktails and the scenery from within a floor-to-ceiling glass walled interior space or outside on the panoramic terrace, where drinkers can take in unparalleled views of Somerset House, the Thames, Soho and the City.

A good night would be to enjoy Radio before moving to Mayfair to check out Maddox’s new refurb. The DJ podium has been shifted centre stage to give big name performers the platform they deserve with a theatre quality sound system and brand new lighting. The upstairs bar has extended its license to 3am.

Just down the street, pop-up enfants terribles The Young Turks have opened the permanent The Clove Club in Shoreditch Town Hall. The bar is stripped back and austere, with original boxing spectator chairs from the assembly hall itself as seating. Guests can choose from a weekly changing cocktail menu as well as light bites including head chef Isaac McHale’s infamous buttermilk fried chicken with pine salt.

Nearby on Hoxton Square, Monikers opened in a former school gym and chemistry lab and is truly old school, retaining original parquet flooring and brickwork. Its design elements include a PDR in a mezzanine crafted from the panelling of a MCW Metrobus, beakers reconceptualised as glassware, illuminated globes and elemental tables. It boasts a tasty cocktail menu and rotating craft beer selection from local breweries.
