Wetherspoon like-for-like sales up 6.3 per cent

PUB CHAIN JD Wetherspoon today posted a 6.3 per cent increase in like-for-like sales over the quarter, with total sales up 9.3 per cent.

The British company, which plans to open 30 pubs in the current financial year, said that the biggest dangers to the industry are the VAT disparity between supermarkets and pubs and stealth taxes such as the late-night levy.

It expects taxation and input costs to continue to rise, but is still aiming for a “reasonable outcome” in the current financial year.
