West Ham to begin stadium work

FOOTBALL: West Ham were last night granted planning permission to begin redevelopment work on their new home at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford. Approval has been granted for retractable seating on all four sides of the ground, which will be reduced in capacity from 80,000 to 54,000. A transparent roof is also among the planned modifications. Vice-chairman Karren Brady said: “For me and my team the hard work is only just beginning. This is an incredible opportunity to create a world-class stadium for West Ham supporters that will exceed their expectations and the chance to really deliver a lasting legacy for London.”
