Wenger in the hunt for Van Persie replacement

ARSENAL boss Arsene Wenger admits he is looking to dip into the transfer market this January to cover the loss of striker Robin van Persie.<br /><br />The Dutchman has been ruled out for up to five months after suffering ankle ligament damage, leaving the Gunners desperately light up front.<br /><br />Wenger has already been linked with moves for Bordeaux frontman Marouane Chamakh and Inter Milan&rsquo;s Mario Balotelli.<br /><br />And the Frenchman has now been forced to admit he is ready to delve into the market to strengthen his squad &ndash; but only if the price is right.<br /><br />Asked if Van Persie&rsquo;s absence would influence his decision to buy in January, Wenger said: &ldquo;It has to. I did not feel we were in need to buy anyone but we will be out on the market now, that is for sure. However, we will only make a decision if it suits us.&rdquo;<br /><br />Wenger, meanwhile, is set to keep faith with his youthful Carling Cup side for tonight&rsquo;s quarter-final against Manchester City, who are expected to field a strong line-up.<br /><br />Jack Wilshere and Craig Eastmond are both expected to feature.
