LONDON Wasps-bound lock Kearnan Myall was a last-minute addition to the England squad that jetted off on tour to Uruguay and Argentina yesterday.

The 26-year-old Sale Sharks forward, who has agreed to move south this summer, was drafted in after injuries to flanker Calum Clark and lock Ed Slater.

Northampton’s Clark has failed to recover from an ankle injury, while Slater, of newly-crowned Premiership champions Leicester, has a tricep problem.

It means England took just 31 players to South America for a tour match in Montevideo on Sunday and two Tests against Argentina next month.

“It’s unfortunate for both Calum and Ed that they won’t be able to join up with England this summer but I’m sure they will be back and pushing for places next season,” said head coach Stuart Lancaster.a

“Kearnan did well in a good team performance against the Barbarians [on Sunday] and now has a great chance to continue his progress with us on tour.”
