Volcanic ash costs Restaurant Group £500,000 in lost revenue
RESTAURANT Group – which owns the Garfunkel’s and Frankie & Benny’s chains – posted a six per cent rise in year-to-date total sales yesterday.
The comany said it was confident of reporting profitable progress in the first half.
For the 18 weeks to 2 May, the company posted a 0.5 per cent rise in like-for-like sales.
Like-for-like sales would have been about 1.5 per cent ahead of last year had it not been for the impact on the concessions division from the disruption to air travel caused by the volcanic ash, the company said.
Restaurant Group, whose concessions business operates table-service restaurants and cafes principally in UK airports, said the division’s results would be hit by £500,000 due to disruption of flights. The company will open up to 25 new outlets this year.
