Vivendi beats earnings forecasts

French telecoms group Vivendi said growing sales of video games boosted its first-quarter results yesterday, as it reported a 7.2 per cent increase in earnings before interest and taxes to €1.7bn (£1.5bn). Revenues rose 3.8 per cent in the quarter compared with the same period in 2010 to €7.2bn, Vivendi said. Both results beat analyst forecasts. However, its telecommunication business SFR saw revenues slip 0.9 per cent to €3.1bn as it faced a price war with its major competitors.
