Virgin Media adds record number of new customers

Virgin Media added almost 40,000 new customers over the three months to September, helped by its super-fast broadband and digital TV service offering.

In its third quarter results released this morning, the media group said its 39,500 new customers over the period was up from 6,300 over the previous quarter.

Revenue for the media group was up 3.1 per cent to £3.06bn for the nine months to September, and up 2.8 per cent to £1.02bn over the quarter.

The average spend per customer was up 1.8 per cent, and less people left the service over the period, highlighting increased brand loyalty.

Chief executive Neil Berkett said this morning: “This has been a quarter where continued strong demand for superfast broadband and TiVo has led to lower churn and meaningful cable customer growth.”
