US economic indicators slip

NEW unemployment insurance claims in the US edged up in the second week of April, numbers showed yesterday.

According to Department of Labor figures, new claims of joblessness insurance were 352,000 in the week ending 13 April, up 4,000 on the previous week, but down 35,000 on the same week a year earlier. Meanwhile, the Conference Board’s leading indicator measure of the US economy edged down 0.1 per cent in March, to reach 94.7.
