Unemployment ticks up to 2.52m

UK UNEMPLOYMENT rose 7,000 to 2.52m in the three months to January, putting pressure on Chancellor George Osborne before his lunchtime Budget.

According to official data out this morning from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the unemployment rate stayed flat at 7.8 per cent.

However, the number of people claiming unemployment benefit fell to a 20-month low of 1.542m.
