UK consumer woes carry on

UK CONSUMERS remained downbeat in February, according to a survey out this morning.

GFK’s index recording consumers personal financial situation over the past 12 months was stuck at minus 26 in the second month of the year, flat compared to January although three points up on February 2012.

Since the index’s long term average – over the 40 years it has existed – is minus 9, a score this low indicates deep gloom for households. But GFK’s Nick Moon said: “While an unchanged figure may not seem very good news, the maintenance of all of last month’s three point gain is encouraging.”
