UBS, the Swiss investment bank, was last night in the market selling a 2.2 per cent stake in Airbus owner EADS that it bid for at a price of €40.20 a share from the French government.

Market insiders said that the bank, which is second in the league tables for this type of business, could struggle to sell the shares on to the market given the tight price.

Shares in EADS were trading yesterday at €40.65. The French government sold the stake for around €720m (£606m).
