Triple jumper Idowu quits track

ATHLETICS: Britain’s former triple jump world champion Phillips Idowu has sparked retirement rumours after announcing he is to take an unspecified amount of time away from the sport. It means the Londoner, 34, who failed to reach last year’s Olympic final, will miss next month’s World Championships in Moscow. Confirming his “step back”, he said: “I’m excited about pursuing other interests and taking other opportunities that present themselves to me during this break.”
