Toomey in a coma after surgery

HORSE RACING: Jump-jockey Brian Toomey is in an induced coma following successful surgery to reduce swelling on his brain, after he suffered a heavy fall on Solway Dandy at Perth racecourse on Thursday. The 24-year-old is recovering at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee and is expected to be sedated “for a few days” according to Lisa Hancock, chief executive of the Injured Jockeys’ Fund.
