Sven rejects Sweden role
SVEN-GORAN Eriksson has turned his back on the chance to coach the Sweden national team in order to stay with League Two Notts County.
Eriksson headed a five-man list of suitors for the job vacated by Lars Lagerback last week.
But the 61-year-old has decided he wants to carry on in his role as director of football at Meadow Lane instead.
Swedish FA chief Lars-Ake Lagrell confirmed yesterday: “Last week we made contact with ‘Svennis’, who is one of the people we thought could be a possibility for the job as national team coach.
“We have had good discussions, but he has now decided that with regards to his contract with Notts County, there is no possibility of him taking charge of the national team now.”
Eriksson had proposed a job-share between the two roles but that was ruled out by County executive chairman Peter Trembling. Fulham boss Roy Hodgson is also said to be on the Swedish FA’s wish-list.
