Strikes to cancel Lufthansa flights

GERMANY’S largest airline Lufthansa has cancelled almost all of its 1,700 short-haul flights planned for today as a result of a strike by thousands of workers calling for higher pay.

The Verdi union on Friday announced industrial action to try and clinch a better pay deal.

The firm said “massive flight cancellations and delays” were also expected on long haul flights from last night until the one-day strike is over.

Around 100 flights to and from the UK will be affected.
