JAMAICAN sprint star Asafa Powell has been formally placed under investigation by Italian police probing the possibility he broke the country’s doping laws.
The former 100m world record holder’s team-mate Sherone Simpson and their Canadian trainer Christopher Xeureb are also being investigated, police said.
The trio’s hotel at their Italian training base was raided on Monday, 24 hours after it emerged that Powell and Simpson tested positive for a banned stimulant at last month’s national trials.
Police seized substances but were yesterday still analysing whether they were legal or not.
Discus thrower Allison Randall has been named as the third Jamaican to test positive at the Jamaican trials.
