Spotify tuning into new lands

SPOTIFY has made its first pushes into Latin America and Asia by launching its music streaming service in eight new countries.

The Swedish firm, which allows users to play songs online by paying a subscription fee or via an advertising-funded version, has expanded into Mexico, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Iceland.

The move means that Spotify is now in 28 countries as it seeks to expand its 6m-strong base of paying customers. The service is growing rapidly but is not yet believed to have turned a profit.
