SPAR UK managing director Jerry Marwood has announced he is set to leave the company after nine years in charge.
He will move on next summer but is yet to reveal his future plans.
During his time at Spar, Marwood has overseen rapid company growth.
The company has a 2,583-strong network of supermarkets in the UK, all of which are independently owned and managed, and it recently reported a 3.1 per cent year-on-year increase in sales for the three-month period to the end of July.
By category, sales of own-brand products grew by 4.4 per cent, while fresh food and wine sales increased by 3.9 and 3.5 per cent respectively.
Spar said in statement : “Jerry has a desire to move on to seek new challenges and we have been working with him to map out a process which would ensure a smooth transition.”
Marwood said: “I still have a number of exciting business initiatives to implement, a replacement to find and a handover to complete – all of which will take some time.”
