■ Blackberry’s latest software security innovation (see p3) may be of interest to the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), which has lost 83 BlackBerrys and 17 laptops in the last five years. A freedom of information request by intelligence firm Veracode also revealed that BIS recorded one personal laptop and one personal BlackBerry going awol. A representative from BIS said: “We are not able to differentiate whether an item has been lost or stolen” and that “we do not record information on the estimated replacement values of the items.” Good to see such tight budget control in these straitened times.
