THE SHARD, London’s iconic skyscraper and western Europe’s tallest building, has secured its first office tenant six months after it was officially launched.

Duff & Phelps, the financial advisory and investment banking firm, has exchanged contracts with the Shard’s developer Sellar Property to take around 17,000 square feet of office space, it confirmed yesterday, without revealing details of the contract.

“Duff & Phelps looks forward to consolidating our valuation, restructuring and M&A teams in London while taking advantage of The Shard’s central location, robust amenities and inspiring design,” chief operating officer Brett Marschke said.

The 1,016ft-tall tower is also thought to be close to signing Al Jazeera, the broadcaster, and energy company South Hook Liquid Natural Gas to floors 16 and 28.
