UK WATER supplier Severn Trent today confirmed that it has been approached with a takeover offer from a consortium of international investors.

The investors comprise Canada’s Borealis Infrastructure Management, the Kuwait Investment Office and UK pension fund the Universities Superannuation Scheme.

The FTSE 100-listed utility company said that the approach was at a “very early stage” and that there was no certainty that an offer will be made.

Severn Trent’s shares surged over 18 per cent following the announcement.
