CHELSEA’S first summer signing Andre Schurrle has revealed that former Blues star and fellow German Michael Ballack convinced him to complete an £18m switch to Stamford Bridge.
Ballack played his final season alongside Schurrle, 22, at Bayer Leverkusen before retiring last year and has remained a mentor to the versatile forward.
“We talked a lot about it. He told me I had to make the move because Chelsea is a great club with great fans and great staff,” said the former Mainz player. “Throughout my whole career Michael’s been a big help to me, he’s always there for me to offer advice and tell me what I can do better.”
