Sales up at H&M as warm weather and Beyonce pull in shoppers

H&M saw its best global sales for nine months during June, it said yesterday, as total sales rose by 13 per cent compared to the same time last year.

The Swedish retailer said that an advertising campaign fronted by pop star Beyonce had helped drive demand, with sales growing by three per cent in shops open a year or more as warm weather across Europe, China, Russia and the US encouraged customers to get out and spend more.

H&M now has a total 2,926 stores around the world, compared to 2,596 at the end of June 2012.

H&M’s shares, which are down three per cent from a year ago but up three per cent this year, closed flat yesterday at 237.10 Swedish krona (£25.52).
