Royal Dutch Shell appoints insider as chief executive

Ben van Beurden has been appointed chief executive of Royal Dutch Shell, replacing Peter Voser after 29 years with the company.

Van Beurden is a Shell veteran, having joined in 1983 and held a number of technical and commercial roles in both the upstream and downstream businesses across the world. Most recently, he was downstream director, a position he’s held since January 2013.

Jorma Ollila, chairman of Shell, says he’s “delighted” to announce the appointment, adding that van Beurden “will continue to drive and further develop the strategic agenda that we have set out, to generate competitive returns for our shareholders”.
