BRITAIN’S Lewis Hamilton boosted his hopes of another front-row grid position for Sunday’s Monaco Grand Prix by recording the second fastest practice time in Monte Carlo yesterday.
Hamilton’s Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg set the pace at the most glamorous date on the Formula One calendar, with Ferrari pair Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa third and fourth quickest.
Red Bull’s Mark Webber posted the fifth fastest lap, but colleague and triple world champion Sebastian Vettel could only manage ninth, behind Lotus pair Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean, and McLaren’s Jenson Button.
Hamilton started second in the last race, the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, only to trail home 12th following tyre degradation problems, but a front-row start in Monaco is considered a better guarantee of a podium place due to difficulties overtaking.
Drivers have a day off today before qualifying takes place tomorrow.
