The Romanian dream

Romanian sibling artists Gert and Uwe Tobias are not just brothers; they're identical twins. Together they conjure universes full of thorny-limbed animals and swollen neon rain drops. Dreamlike and harmonious, the work is the product of two vivid imaginations perfectly in sync. The Tobiases are known for their use of old-fashioned craft-based techniques. They make woodcut and ceramic prints, relief sculptures and watercolours. Subject matter ranges from Eastern European folklore to contemporary pop culture. Now residing in Germany, Gert and Uwe haven't lost sight of their Romanian heritage. The story of Dracula is a perpetual inspiration. They exhibit at the Whitechapel gallery next month. There’ll be plenty to sink your teeth into.

Gert and Uwe Tobias opens at the Whitechapel Gallery from 16 April.
