Robins edge out Addicks in shootout to reach final
CHARLTON (2) vs SWINDON (1)
Swindon win 5-4 on pens, 3-3 on agg
CHARLTON skipper Nicky Bailey suffered penalty shoot-out heartache as the Addicks were beaten to the League One play-off final by Swindon.
Bailey left the field in tears after his miss allowed Stephen Darby to convert the winning spot-kick on a night of drama at the Valley.
Trailing 2-1 from the first leg, Charlton looked to be on course for Wembley when they went two up on the night and Swindon were reduced to 10 men. A Simon Ferry own goal and a David Mooney strike had the home side buoyant even before the Robins’ Gordon Greer was sent off.
But with 16 minutes left Daniel Ward levelled on aggregate and Charlton had Miguel Llera dismissed before succumbing to a cruel spot-kick defeat.
