The Road to Cheltenham

It’s appropriate that the last race under the spotlight in this series is the last race of the Cheltenham Festival itself, the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual.

Nicky Henderson will saddle a monster team of six as he looks to win the race named after his father for a third time. I suggest snapping up the 10/1 available about his KID CASSIDY with Star Sports as he could easily trade at half that price on the day. My selection is not the most straightforward of characters and is famously one of those horses who survived the hideous electrocution saga at Newbury a couple of years ago.

He was on the wild side before that incident and the events of that sorry day can’t have helped his temperament.

However, he has an extraordinary talent and really caught the eye in a recent spin around Kempton after racing. This race has been the target all along and it’s more of a positive than a negative that AP McCoy looks more likely to partner Irish raider Alderwood.

McCoy is arguably the greatest jump jockey of all time, but doesn’t seem to gel with Kid Cassidy and has been beaten on each of the last three times he has ridden him.

I’m reliably informed that Paul Carberry will take the ride and his gentle nurturing will suit my selection down to the ground.
