Queen marks 60th coronation anniversary at Westminster Abbey

THE Queen celebrated 60 years since her accession to the throne with a ceremony at Westminster Abbey yesterday, with 2,000 guests filling the church to hear the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and Prime Minster David Cameron speak. Along with 20 members of the Royal Family, the Queen returned to the site of her coronation in 1953, where key items from the ceremony including the solid gold St Edward’s Crown were put on show.

Queen Elizabeth was crowned at 27 years of age, after her father King George VI died after just 14 years on the throne.
