PZ CUSSONS, the firm behind Imperial Leather soap and St Tropez tanning products, said yesterday that trading has been in line with forecasts for the year to the end of May, with growth across the world.

The firm said its core British brands were performing well in the face of steep discounting in the market as consumers rein in spending.

In Australia, PZ Cussons has returned to profitability after a restructuring, though its African business has been hit by unrest in parts of Nigeria.

The firm, which is due to publish full-year figures next month, said it will focus on margin improvement.
