TO LANCASTER House last night, for the annual summer bash thrown by PR group Pelham Bell Pottinger.
The weather didn’t rain on the spinners’ parade as it did last year, with 400 distinguished City guests – including Lord Archer, Centrica boss Sam Laidlaw, City veteran Michael Spencer, Lord Bell and former Tory leader Michael Howard – all turning out for the Lancaster House garden party. However, the surprise face amongst the crowd was G4S boss Nick Buckles, who only hours before had announced that he was to step down at the end of the month. Clearly pinching the pennies facing impending unemployment, the oh-so-down-to-earth Buckles told garden party-goers that his suit was “£145 from Primark.” Sounds pretty pricey for a Primark two-piece. Maybe he is not quite so grounded after all.
