CRYSTAL Palace are set for a £120m bonanza after beating Watford in yesterday’s Championship play-off final at Wembley.
The south Londoners earned their promotion to the lucrative Premier League with an extra time penalty from veteran Kevin Phillips.
The win will secure Palace £60m in extra revenue next season, Deloitte has said, with a further £60m guaranteed by so-called parachute payments if the Eagles are relegated straight back down again.
But even on that front, Deloitte’s analysis is upbeat. “Over the past decade more than half (17 out of 30) of those promoted clubs have successfully retained their Premier League status in that crucial first season,” it says.
The vast majority – £55m – of the £60m jackpot will come from the Premier League’s hugely bolstered TV deal, which begins in August.
